With the 1st Annual Dog-N-Jog almost 2 weeks behind us, we’ve had time to reflect on what a fantastic event it was! Seeing how this was Indian Hills Animal Clinic’s first race event, we set out goals high. We hoped to have 150 human participants in our race day events as well as raise over $15,000 for the Kansas Humane Society. (Perhaps our financial goals were a little skewed given the economy at this time).
Finding sponsors was a difficult task– over 600 letters went out to local businesses asking for gifts-in-kind, financial donations, or service donations. Out of those 600 letters, we were able to get 9 sponsors– and those 9 sponsors were key to making our event the success that it was!
Some of our numbers:
- 2- Dog-N-Jog organizers
- 9- Fantastic sponsors
- 70- Volunteers from: Indian Hills Animal Clinic, Hawker-Beechcraft, Starbucks, Kansas Humane Society, McConnell Airforce Base
- 168- Human participants
- 115- Canine participants
- 20:53.75 – Time the 1st place runner and dog crossed the finish line!
And the best numbers yet:
- 1- Kansas Humane Society beneficiary!!
- $3113.79- Check written to KHS
We have learned a lot after putting on this first years race. We are looking forward to next years race and making some changes to benefit KHS more as well as the participants.
